Captains Welcome

As captain, it is with great pleasure that I welcome all players, members, supporters and referees to Lansdowne FC. Having spent so long at this great club, it is a huge honour to captain Lansdowne and I trust that you will enjoy your time spent here.  Despite what others may say, it is only my 10th season here.  Mike Ruddock continues as first team coach with Mark McHugh joining him as backs coach and Ciaran Walsh as strength and conditioning coach, and all three are ambitious for a successful season.  Hopefully their knowledge and expertise will continue to improve players on an individual basis and bring great success to Lansdowne.

I would like to thank Emmett Farrell for all his work over the last 3 seasons and wish him all the best this year with Blackrock RFC. I would also like to thank outgoing captain Willie Earle on a great year and a tremendous contribution to the club in his time here and wish him all the best in Dubai.

I wish the best of luck to several first team players who achieved great success with Lansdowne FC and have been duly rewarded with the opportunity to play at professional level. The Senior squad has seen some departures but, as always, has been reinforced with excellent talent in the form of new club members and graduates from the ever successful U21 squad. The U21s managed by Declan Fassbender, Charlie Quinn and Ed Lyons, and indeed several other Junior teams, provide the Senior squad with a stream of quality players that is so important to our Lansdowne’s success. I look forward to being part of this club for the coming year and I wish each of our teams a successful and injury free season. We owe sincere thanks to our Director of Rugby, Steve Rooney, Chairman of Rugby, Colin Goode, and first team managers Paddy Gore and Brian Corrigan for their selfless hard work every season.

The club is grateful for the support of all our sponsors, especially Zurich, as they continue to promote the success of Lansdowne FC and to those who contribute to running our excellent facilities. I believe Lansdowne’s success is driven by the passion and commitment of the individuals and families involved in our club, from youngsters starting out at minis all the way to Club President, Frank Kenny.  It is encouraging to see underage teams and their families travelling across the country with us to play games, support the first team and provide post-match analysis in the bar afterwards!
