Bill O’Connell was one of the many players from Limerick who made their way to Lansdowne which he joined in 1952. He was a big athletic player with good ball skills and a top class lineout specialist.
In his one cap against France in 1955 he was badly injured which brought an unfortunate end to a very promising rugby career.
He was a big loss to Lansdowne which at the time included fellow internationals Paddy Berkery and Seamus Kelly.
