What can we say about the J3 or 3rdA’s as known to older generations. The most successful side in Lansdowne over the past few years, they have now won The Moran cup for the fourth successive year captained by the ageless Stevie Keogh whose father was a member of the team that brought the first Moran Cup back to Lansdowne in 1958. Stevie was once again ably assisted by Gavin Lee and Declan Drummond who continue to tog out despite reaching pensionable age. It does one good to see such a committed team playing for each other in the Corinthian spirit. Shane Whelan was a notable new recruit this season and Angus McKeen also made an appearance.
The team was in contention for the J3 League playoffs but due to an administrative error on our part the Leinster Branch adopted a very high handed attitude and deducted points from the team such as to virtually wipe out any chance of reaching the play offs. It would do the Branch well to reflect on the action taken for a bunch of amateur players who give so much to club rugby. For the record we finished 3rd of 6 in our League section following the Leinster Branch actions. We congratulate Stillorgan the ultimate winners of the league.
Such was the disappointment of the League fiasco that the team rallied and made their bid to retain the Moran Cup and secured close victories over Barnhall and Stillorgan (after extra time) in the semi final. The final against a brave Terenure side was won in a very comprehensive manner 20-7. The celebrations were tempered by the serious leg injury sustained by Stephen Keating and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Equally the management of Brian Winckworth and John (Starry) Crowley must be commended for maintaining the standards set.

The Legendary Lansdowne 3A's saved their best 'til last in an epic encounter which salvaged the season from the ruins and ashes created by a secretarial blunder! Robbed of the chance to defend their League title, Phoenix-like they re-emerged to show their team spirit and loyalty to each other and to Lansdowne.
