Mini Rugby

7.09.09

The Mini Rugby Season commences again on Sunday 6th September at 10.30am at the CUS Grounds in Bird Avenue.

Lansdowne members and their friends are most welcome to come along with their children (or grandchildren) born in 2004 or before. Coaches from the parent community are also most welcome.

Mini Rugby starts with simple games of tip for the Under 6 and Under 7s and gradually develops the rudimentary skills and enjoyment of the game up to U13s where full contact 15 man rugby is played.

Familiar Lansdowne faces (and a few unfamiliar) are to be seen helping out and coaching the kids in the Red, Yellow and Black.

Please come along to Bird Avenue any Sunday at 10.30am or contact Conor Shaw (conor.shaw@my3rdspace.com 087 813 4849) for further details.

AGM Season Report

This was another very busy season for the mini rugby and youth teams where we had 6 mini age groups running from U.6/7 right through to U.12 and comprising a total of 220 participants of Lansdowne’s finest. The youths section fielded an U.13 side drawn from 25 players but we had to abandon the U.14’s and U.15’s due to lack of numbers as the schools poached our players.
Conor Shaw took over as chairman of the mini and youths section from John Kearney on his election as Club President and assembled a dedicated team of team managers, coaches and volunteers to work through the season. The Registrar and Child welfare officer was Ulla Callahan and the Branch rep and fixtures secretary was Ray Carroll. Medical support was offered by Steve Eustace, John Russell and Peter Meagher. In addition about 30 parents helped out with communications teas and coffees and end of season events. CUS were very generous in providing the Bird Ave facility throughout the season.
The Lansdowne Executive is very grateful to Conor Shaw and his team for the enormous amount of work put in this season in nurturing the talent for future years.
Before going on to immediate happenings I would refer back to the tail end of last season which happened subsequent to the last AGM . Three teams from the U.12’s (40 boys and 39 Dads) toured Southern France last May taking in Toulouse and Biarritz. The U.10’s toured Wales and won the tournament where Adam Curry was named player of the tournament. Sadly the U.11’s were defeated by Skerries in the Bowl Final last year.
The ethos of the Minis is to emphasise participation in the sport above all and thus enjoy the experience. However the following is a brief synopsis on the teams fielded and highlights..
